NWF Spring Code-A-Thon: Instilling the Dream in Students at Howard Community College
How can today’s technology make lives better tomorrow, and how quickly can those solutions be brought to life? These are the questions students asked each other at NWF’s recent Code-A-Thon hosted at Howard Community College.
We welcomed 30+ students for a day of coding, problem solving and competition! Participants utilized Microsoft’s cognitive service solutions to create presentations which showcased gesture recognition and interactive information extraction. Teams presented their final projects to a panel of judges including NewWave Tech’s own Patrick Munis, Vignesh Rajan, Donghwa Kim and HCC representative Paul Hogan.
After intense deliberation, our judges decided on two winning teams: 1st place went to “The Gesture Texter,” a program designed to help individuals with neurodegenerative disorders while our 2nd place team designed a program to read and organize health insurance cards.
We’re grateful to all our amazing volunteers and would like to thank Vignesh Rajan, Donghwa Kim, Aahlad Karumuru, Rama Manne, Shira Smith, Breanna Wheeler and Chris Rivera for supporting the event. Thank you! Are you interested in volunteering at future NWF events? Click here to complete our volunteer form and a team member will be in touch!
