Collegebound Foundation

College Bound

The Newwave Foundation is proud to support the CollegeBound Foundation. CollegeBound works exclusively in Baltimore City public schools to encourage and enable students to pursue a post-secondary education. Since 1988, CollegeBound’s nationally recognized college advising model has transformed the lives of tens of thousands of high school students in Baltimore. 

Every year, CollegeBound works with thousands of Baltimore City public school students to guide them to and through college. CollegeBound advises students every day in Baltimore’s public high schools and annually awards $3 million every year in college scholarships.

NWF proudly supports under-served Baltimore city students with scholarship opportunities and is honored to partner with the CollegeBound Foundation and we have launched two scholarships for students who are committed to service and demonstrate resilience. Collegebound DC

CollegeBound DC

NewWave Foundation is a proud supporter of Collegebound DC through our scholarship program. As a 501(c)(3) organization, their mission is to help provide resources and prepare students grades 8th-12th to attend and graduate from college. Founded in 1991, they have made it a point supply their resources to the students of public schools and public charter schools in Washington, D.C. Programs like tutoring, mentoring, ACT/SAT preparation, and academic and career guidance are offered free of charge to each student.

 At NewWave Foundation, we are passionate about supporting organizations that are paving the way in education for the youth and making a difference in their community. Their work has helped hundreds of students get accepted to some of the top colleges in the United States, with multiple scholarships. They have impacted on many students and their families in the D.C. area, and we are proud contributors to future of their students.  Learn more about what CollegeBound DC is doing for their community here.

Girls Inspired & Ready to Lead

NewWave Foundation proudly supports Girls Inspired & Ready to Lead. GIRL is a non-profit organization whose mission is to mentor and empower teen girls for future success by promoting academic excellence, leadership skills, community service, career preparation, and self-esteem.

Newwave Foundation is a proud sponsor of Girls Inspired and Ready to Lead’s (GIRL) sixth annual summer STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) camp held at George Mason University! Through our Golden Age of Hollywood Gala, NWF provided GIRL with a grant for 11 students to attend the camp on a NWF scholarship.

GIRL’s week-long STEM camp provided over 70 middle and high school girls an opportunity to experiment with virtual reality, learn about careers in STEM and network with positive role models who empowered the campers to feel confident in their knowledge and skills with STEM.

Through its workshops and activities, GIRL provides educational and social enrichment opportunities and positive role models so girls can feel confident in themselves and supported in achieving their dreams.

Howard Community College

NewWave Foundation is a proud partner of Howard Community College (HCC). An integral part of vibrant Howard County, HCC’s mission is to provide its students with a place to discover greatness in themselves and others.

HCC is the primary hub for higher learning in one of the most vibrant, best-educated counties in Maryland. They are proud to serve our community and to provide pathways to success for everyone whose life goals can be realized through education. HCC makes higher education accessible with multiple locations, flexible scheduling and online, hybrid and accelerated learning formats. Their campus boasts state-of-the-art facilities, a vibrant cultural and arts scene, and an incredibly dedicated faculty and staff that make it all possible.

NWF was a proud sponsor for HCC’s 2019 Code-A-Thon hosted. We welcomed 30+ students for a day of coding, problem solving and competition! Participants utilized Microsoft’s cognitive service solutions to create presentations which showcased gesture recognition and interactive information extraction. Teams presented their final projects to a panel of judges including NewWave Tech’s own Patrick Munis, Vignesh Rajan, Donghwa Kim and HCC representatives.

I Am, We Are

I Am, We Are

The Newwave Foundation proudly supports the work of I Am, We Are (IAWA), a nonprofit organization creating a world where all youth are socially engaged, globally aware, and economically free. IAWA provides a nurturing environment where tomorrow’s leaders are cultivated and strives to empower youth with the tools, they need to confidently own their futures.
Founded on the philosophy of Ubuntu, or “I am because we are,” I Am, We Are (IAWA pronounced eye-ow-wa) strives to empower youth with the tools to confidently own their future. They give their ambassadors an understanding of self, stretch their belief in who they can be, and teach them how to apply the principles of entrepreneurship to create the future they envision for themselves. IAWA’s interactive curriculum goes beyond just academic learning by creating a support network for youth, enables youth to have a voice and creates a learning culture, teaches life skills, work related values, exposes youth to diverse life options, career paths, and creates opportunities for youth to assume leadership roles, develop responsibility, self-reliance, and initiative, and acquire marketable skills.

Morgan State University

Morgan State University

NWF is excited to support Morgan State University’s Economics Department! MSU’s economics program provides first-class educational opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds master economic literacy and make wise choices in a global world of accelerating change.

The Department of Economics is responsible for broadening economic literacy among Morgan State University students and is geared toward providing a comprehensive program of studies as a discipline for students planning to get into the job market in the private and public sectors as well as those who plan to go to graduate and professional schools.

Morgan State University serves the community, region, state, nation, and world as an intellectual and creative resource by supporting, empowering and preparing high-quality, diverse graduates to lead the world. The University offers innovative, inclusive, and distinctive educational experiences to a broad cross section of the population in a comprehensive range of disciplines at the baccalaureate, master’s, doctoral, and professional degree levels. Through collaborative pursuits, scholarly research, creative endeavors, and dedicated public service, the University gives significant priority to addressing societal problems, particularly those prevalent in urban communities.

Project Search

The Arc of Howard County: Project SEARCH

The Newwave Foundation is proud to work with Howard County’s Project SEARCH to provide scholarships to students with disabilities. Project SEARCH is a one-year transition program for young adults with disabilities in their last year of high school. The program goal is to help prepare individuals for full-time employment, through training and coaching workshops. Project SEARCH focuses on providing young adults, who are on an Individual Education Program (IEP), the tools and skills they need to obtain a full-time job.

Project SEARCH began as an isolated program site at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. In 1996, the Director of the Emergency Department hired individuals with developmental disabilities for entry level positions, in an effort to provide equal opportunity. This idea inspired a partnership with a special education teacher to launched Project SEARCH, a program designed to secure competitive employment for people with disabilities.

Threads Inc

Thread Inc.

At the Newwave Foundation, we believe in pursuing educational equality and doing everything we can to foster students’ academic advancement. This fall, we are proud to partner with Thread Inc., a local nonprofit organization in Baltimore. Thread mentors help students receive tutoring, finance and health education while also connecting them with opportunities to serve in their local community. These connections weave a new social fabric by connecting students who are at the bottom 25% of their class with mentors, educators and other students to help empower them through their high school career and beyond.

Today, Thread is working with over 200 students in their Level 2 Community; Students who have graduated high school and are enrolled in college or professional training. NWF has awarded an education grant to cover book fees and support tuition expenses for Thread’s community of students. Just this year, Thread has supported 527 students and alumni, building relationships that transcend barriers and enrich the lives of everyone involved.

Thread is changing the fabric of Baltimore and the Newwave Foundation is excited to support Thread and the relationships the organization has woven to give students an even greater opportunity to defy the odds. 

Wheel of Hope

Wheel of Hope Initiative

The Newwave Foundation is a proud supporter of the Wheel of Hope Initiative (WOHI); a non-profit organization that believes in creating sustainable activities and services that will alleviate poverty and improve the quality of life of women, children and youth in rural and underserved urban areas. Their 3 focus pillars are education, health, and economic empowerment and they support this through their educational, health and youth & woman empowerment programs. Based in Beltsville Maryland, WOHI has done amazing things in their community and in Nigeria for the youth. A few of their programs that fall under their contribution to education, are mentorship programs, scholarship programs and their sponsor a child program, where donors provide recurring financial assistance to cover school supplies and uniforms for students in need.

In 2020, NWF sponsored back to school initiative that the WOHI hosted in partnership with the Boys & Girls club of greater Washington as a COVID-19 relief response. They were able to purchase face masks, hand sanitizers, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, sponges, deodorant and healthy snacks to serve 100 children in the Washington, D.C. area. Along with the back to school bags, they provided each student with a brochure on safety tips to practice at home and in school.
